There's nothing quite like floating above the ocean at night as giant manta rays, some with wingspans up to 14 feet, glide gracefully beneath you. Dolphin Discoveries' Manta Ray Night Snorkel is one of Kona's most iconic experiences, and for good reason: the Big Island's waters are home to one of the most reliable manta ray viewing sites in the world.
Our expert crew will guide you every step of the way, from gearing up to slipping into the warm Pacific waters. You'll hold onto a specially lit float board as mantas perform their breathtaking underwater ballet just below the surface, feeding on plankton drawn in by the lights. No diving experience needed. Just wonder.
We also offer a Manta Guarantee add-on, if the mantas don't show, we'll bring you back, because we believe every guest deserves that magic moment.

Manta Ray Village sits just off the Kona coast of the Big Island, a short 5-minute boat ride from our departure point at Keauhou Bay. It is widely regarded as one of the premier manta ray viewing sites in the world, and for good reason: the underwater geography here is uniquely suited to creating the conditions manta rays need to feed.
The ocean floor rises steeply from deep water to a shallow reef, which forces cold, nutrient-rich water toward the surface and concentrates zooplankton in the shallows. The reef surrounding Manta Ray Village is also a natural cleaning station, where wrasse fish remove parasites from the rays, meaning the mantas return here consistently, night after night, all year round.
Because we depart from Keauhou Bay, less than a mile from Manta Ray Village, you spend more time in the water and less time on the boat than with most other Kona operators. Many of our guests are surprised to learn the boat ride is only 5 minutes each way. That means more time watching mantas and less time waiting to get there.
Our crew are local Kona experts who know these waters intimately. They know the reef, the currents, the behavior of the rays, and how to position guests for the best possible experience while keeping everyone safe. Want to learn more about these incredible animals before your tour? Visit our Learn About Manta Rays page.
